5 MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT STUDENT WORK

5 MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT STUDENT WORK
Misunderstanding 1:  You should not work more than 475 hours
As a job student you can work as much as you want . The rule is that you have to pay less social contributions for the first 475 hours worked. This will earn you more. If you work for more than 475 hours, you will have to pay more social contributions, and your net salary will be lower.

Misunderstanding 2: f you work for more than 475 hours, your parents lose the child benefit
The child benefit has nothing to do with the 475-hour rule. Your parents lose child benefit if you work for more than 240 hours a quarter . During the summer months, you may work more, except in the last summer after graduating.
Misunderstanding 3: You can work without a contract
As a student, it is mandatory to sign a contract. Never start working without signing a contract, an oral agreement is not enough !
Misunderstanding 4: If you work for more than 475 hours, you or your parents will pay more taxes
Whether paying taxes depends on how much you earn, not how much you work. If you earn more than € 10,345.84 (amount for 2017), you will have to pay taxes yourself.
Your parents will only have to pay more taxes if you are no longer charged. Also for this purpose, annual amounts are set by the government. Before 2017 these are the following:
Misunderstanding 5: You do not have to enter a tax letter
As a job student you must also fill in a tax return. You may not need to pay anything, but you have to fill in the letter. Via Tax on Web you can electronically submit your tax return.
