A popular choice of many is that which belongs to the Zebra, one of the most beautiful animals belonging in Africa. Of course, obtaining hides and furs from animals has its repercussions, as extinction and endangerment is a threat to ecological balance. Therefore, legal skins are only from Tanzania and South Africa.  

The continent of Africa has many types of zebras such as mountain zebras, plains zebras and gravys zebras. Only one type of plains zebra, the African Burchelli, is legal to cull. This, again, is because of its high number due to which endangerment is no potential threat. Another thing to watch out for to go with the law is the vendor. The vendor should be licensed and certified in order to be an accredited supplier. The supplier must have a permit, which enables him to trade in zebra skin. The vendor should give you all documents, which verifies all trading is being done legally. It is also important that the vendor is licensed from Tanzania or South Africa and nowhere else, despite any of his claims. He should only be selling Burchelli skin; any other type is a breach of the law. 

It is better to do all research prior to buying zebra skin rug. Laws and regulations laid down by government federations have a lot of thought and work put into them, so that everyone plays their part in safeguarding the environment. These set of rules provide a limit to culling as well, so that endangerment and possible extinction of such beautiful animals is avoided at all costs. The laws are not only to be followed by the supplier of the pelts; the buyer has an equal responsibility in this and therefore should avoid buying from unaccredited suppliers.
